All the rumors about the next Windows update, called Blue, came true yesterday when Windows CFO Tami Reller revealed that Windows 8.1 will be the official name for Windows Blue and it will be made available free for existing Windows 8 users. And it is to follow Microsoft's previous promise that developers will be able to install a Public Preview version of Windows 8.1 in late June, reports ZDNet.Windows 8 is currently available in handful of versions like Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8 Enterprise and Windows RT, but Reller did not clarify in what versions the Blue will be up for updates.
She also emphasized on having more than 70,000 apps in the Windows Store, and said the final version of the Blue will be made available to customers through the Windows Store once it is available. Microsoft is planning to make a public preview of Blue available on June 26, at the Microsoft Build 2013 conference. Reller said that Microsoft planned to disclose more about pricing and the different versions of Blue before the end of May."Windows 8.1 will be a packaged set of updates which customers can say when they are ready (to deploy)," Reller said, emphasizing Microsoft’s strategy using the Windows Store to deliver Blue to focus on giving users the choice about when they deploy the coming update.
Among other rumored features, Blue is to come with an optical Start Button and boot-to-desktop capabilities.
