Nanny for Google Chrome
Chrome Nanny allows you to be more productive and less distracted by setting time limits for use of particular sites. You can select a group of websites or a single site that you don’t want to use during the work hours and block them for any time period. Say Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter from 9 am to 4 pm. It is similar to LeechBlock, which performs the same function for Firefox.
LeechBlock
LeechBlock is a beautiful add-on for a most popular browser, Firefox. “LeechBlock is a simple productivity tool: an extension for the Firefox web browser designed to block those time-wasting sites that can suck the life out of your working day,” says James Anderson, the creator of this tool. It allows you to compile a list of the sites that eat up your time and choose the time during which you will be blocked from those sites. So you can list any sites say Facebook, Twitter or Google reader and set the program to block these, say from 9 to 12 and 1 to 5. So it will give you a window to check in during your lunch time but otherwise you will have no access to these sites during the working day. Currently it has over 60000 users.
Focus Booster
Focus Booster is a free app for Windows and Mac users that function based on the Pomodoro Technique- The technique which uses a timer to break down periods of work into 25-minute intervals separated by five minute breaks. It is proven to be a productive way of work.
While this app doesn’t block particular websites, it makes you aware of how you spend each minute of your work hours.
SelfControl
This website blocker for Mac seriously justifies its name “self control.” Once you fixed a timer for not accessing the sites, there is no way you are out of it. You should wait for the timer to run out for
TinyFilter is an extension for Google Chrome, now the most popular browser. It actually filters the web content using "detect-and-block" method, set by predefined filter rules from user. So you can simply escape from the distracting sites and even use this filter to censor internet access for children since this extension comes with a built in profanity filter, which censor words and phrases.
getting access to the blocked ones. This is for people who spend too much time digging into mails. Hear this from Steve Lambert, the creator: “SelfControl is an OS X application which blocks access to incoming and/or outgoing mail servers and websites for a predetermined period of time."
